A Brief History of The Year Zero
The first incarnation of The Year Zero was a rather noisy rock band. Our keyboard player Ed had always talked about getting Lili De La Mora to sing for us, but by the time I finally tracked her down, the first version of the band had already broken up. As it turned out, Lili and I lived less than a block away from each other. We both wanted to do something atmospheric and dreamy. We started recording songs together on my four track and posting them online. We were getting a pretty good response from people and eventually Skipping Stones Records came along and offered to release the material we were working on. We polished up the four track stuff at a real studio and released it as "Oceania (I Will Return)". Originally I thought The Year Zero would just be a recording project, but eventually we got the itch to play the songs live.Ed, the same guy from the old version of the band who had originally told me about Lili, recommended a bass player named Jennifer Galdean. We tried her out and she fit amazingly well. As luck would have it, Jennifer was friends with a great drummer named Chris Clawson, who I had asked to be in the in the first Year Zero a long time ago.We played as this lineup for awhile with some wonderful guest guitar and keyboard players, but we wanted someone permanent. Eventually we met Warren Woodward, the newest member of the Year Zero and our first permanent lead guitar player. I think the lineup may finally be complete. Unless Ed ever wants to play keys for us of course.
I recently talked my old friend Chris Evenson(Sense Field) into doing our next record. Hopefully it will be done in a couple of months.
